Tioga Opportunities, Inc.
Rental Assistance

Providing for those in Need

Untitled Document

Since 1977 Tioga Opportunities, Inc. Housing Services has been the local administrator for the Section 8 Housing Voucher Programs (HUD Rental Assistance) sponsored by the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal. This program is designed to assist:

  • elderly
  • disabled, and
  • very low-income households

This is done by making a monthly rental payment to the landlord on behalf of a participating family. The amount paid toward the rent is determined by family income, medical expenses, childcare and utilities paid by the family. Each apartment must pass a Federal Housing Quality Standards inspection before the first subsidy payment can be made and then annually thereafter. This ensures that the living environment is safe and secure.

Call our office for further information regarding
assistance or if you would like an application.

NOTE: Rental assistance offered by the Department of Housing has income criteria that determine eligibility. The income limits and fair market rents are set by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for the Binghamton Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) each year.
